What according to you is depression? Is it bad or people suffering from depression are mentally sick. NO they are not, it’s not a diseases.
In clinical terms depression is “A mental health disorder characterized by persistently depressed mood or loss of interest in activities, causing significant impairment in daily life.”People suffering from depression have symptoms like Sad, anxious, empty, they start feeling hopeless and helpless. People who suffer from depression tend to sleep more (according to psychology: People who are sad tend to sleep more or they tend to keep them self in dark). They even start gaining or losing weight and start getting suicidal thoughts where they tend to talk things like what if I die? Will you miss me if I die? What if I disappear suddenly?
It ranges from mild to severe. No doubt people suffering from severe depression need medical treatment and need to seek help from doctors but if you feel that your loved ones are suffering from depression if they sound low or are just not interested in anything you need to talk to them you need to understand them (understand might just sound as a small word but sometimes it might save someone’s life) Depression is just an illness it’s not somebody’s weakness .Don’t judge people based on the issues that they are facing.
While growing up, boys learn what it means to “be a man.” Unfortunately, some of these “manly” teachings can be downright harmful like “big boys don’t cry,” “suck it up,” “tough it out,” and more. Most boys are taught to ignore or dismiss their feelings—internalizing vulnerability and asking for help as weakness. Boys then grow into men, without ever being in touch with their emotions or knowing how to identify or describe what’s bothering them. For these reasons, many men find depression a difficult topic to discuss. They feel ashamed that they need help and are too embarrassed to ask for it.Yet the rate of depression is higher in men then woman and in today’s time it’s more prevalent in young generation
Starting the conversation is the first step towards recovery. For many men who have overcome depression, the turning point came when they reached out to a friend or family member for support. It’s usually something they wished they had done sooner rather than later.
So please talk to your loved ones if they are not comfortable talking to you get help from counselors and help your friend and family.
